Charging your phone isn’t as simple as just putting it on a charger and letting it do it’s thing.

Okay, it IS that simple, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t possibly making some major mistakes that could be diminishing your battery power and affecting how your device runs. The good news is that you can correct charging problems in a flash — this is the one charging mistake you should stop making to protect your iPhone, according to an Apple expert.

Stop Charging Your Phone Overnight

It’s understandable why you’d charge your phone overnight: you can simply plug it in and forget about it, then wake up with a device that’s ready to go. But your phone doesn’t need that many hours of charging — and this charging habit can have a negative effect on your phone.

“Even after the phone is fully charged, most iPhone users make the mistake of charging it to 100% or keeping it on charge overnight, especially within the first few months after purchasing the phone,” says Tech Expert Rodney Yo, Owner of Best Online Traffic School.  “Unfortunately, some people go to the opposite extreme and only charge their phone when it is completely dead. While neither of these actions will have an immediate negative influence on your iPhone’s battery, over time you may notice a decrease in battery life and capacity. To avoid this, charge your iPhone overnight with a wireless charger or a smart plug that is automatically programmed to switch off at a specific time during the night.”

What you use to charge your iPhone is as important as how you charge it. Robert Welch, the CEO of Projector1, cautions against charging iPhones with fake chargers. “It takes longer to charge the iPhone using these fake chargers,” Welch says. “It also affects the battery life directly as it tends to heat the iPhone. There have been cases where the phones (be it iPhone or any other phone) have exploded while charging with these fake chargers, which are usually faulty. My recommendation will be to invest extra money in a genuine charger. The charger might cost you on the higher side, but the charging experience you will get will compensate for the price.”
