Dua Lipa dazzled fans at the American Film Institute Fest in Los Angeles last week with a chic and sultry black-and-red ensemble. (No, we’re still not over it!) The October 27th occasion was a cocktail reception event in honor of Greta Gerwig, the director of the hit 2023 Barbie film. (Remember when Lipa, 28, epically made her acting debut in it as a mermaid Barbie?)
Gerwig was also the AFI Guest Artistic Director. Lipa’s outfit for the gathering perfectly blended edginess and sophistication, featuring a Gucci maxi dress in black leather and a button-up design, complemented by scarlet pointed-toe heels that matched her newly dyed, fiery red hair.
The “Levitating” singer and style icon highlighted her curves in the fitted, low-cut, long-sleeved and collared little black dress while posing for photos with fans at the festival.

Throughout the night, Lipa also met up and took pics with Billie Eilish, Gerwig, and her husband/ fellow Barbie writer, Noah Baumbach. To complete her get-up, Lipa added a silver chain bracelet and chunky rings. As for her glam, the Grammy winner wore her new crimson tresses down, parted to the side and styled into elegant, loose waves. For her makeup look, the “Levitating” hitmaker rocked bold, black, winged cat-eye liner, smokey silver eyeshadow, sky-high lashes, rosy blush and a 90s-esque mauve lipstick.
Lipa and Eilish celebrated not only Gerwig at the soiree, but also their own contributions to the highly streamed Barbie film soundtrack. While Eilish’s haunting ballad, “What Was I Made For?” was pivotal in one of the flick’s most moving moments, Lipa’s infectious and fun track, “Dance The Night” was just as memorable for the movie’s dance sequence (and many fans on TikTok also deemed it to be the “song of the summer!”)

For her part that evening, Eilish wore a similarly striking outfit, composed of a sleek gray plaid blazer, a black top underneath, a polka-dotted headscarf and red sunglasses. She also sported red hair. Gerwig went for a crisp white button-down top with a black tie.
During the summer season, the Barbie film shattered the box office records as it accumulated a global earning of $1.4 billion, which consequently crowned its female director as the highest-grossing of all time, according to the Los Angeles Times. Lipa and Eilish have also both garnered billions of streams since then for their songs (and they also just gave us plenty of fall style inspo with their latest outing!)
