While Taylor Swift is often asked by fans to ditch her signature bangs, Hailey Bieber is facing similar calls to switch up one of her most recognizable beauty looks: her slicked-back bun.
In a viral Reddit thread, users debated why the Rhode founder has worn the ultra-sleek style so consistently in recent years, with some speculating about whether repeatedly wearing her hair tightly pulled back could contribute to thinning or hair loss.
Bieber has previously explained that her preference for wearing her hair up is partly practical. In a 2021 interview with Refinery29, she opened up about her hair journey and why she often opts for a bun.

Hailey Bieber Fans Beg Her To Ditch Her Signature Slicked-Back Bun
“When I don't have extensions in, I just like to keep my hair out of my face,” the mom of two said, explaining that her hair was long when she was a teenager before she cut it short while modeling. She said she has been trying to grow it out ever since and noticed a difference after she stopped coloring it blonde.
Bieber also said she uses leave-in conditioners and hair treatments when styling her signature bun because she feels like she is “doing something good” for her hair while wearing it pulled back. She added that her hair gets greasy quickly, so she generally applies products from the mid-lengths through the ends.
And the slicked-back bun has become a fixture of the model's look, appearing everywhere from the Met Gala red carpet to coffee runs and Rhode product launches.
But some fans on Reddit say they are ready to see her switch things up.

Fan Comments
“Why does Hailey Bieber ONLY wear a slick back bun... switch it up girl I beg,” one person wrote.
Others raised concerns about the potential impact of constantly wearing a tight hairstyle. “Some of these celebs are on a traction alopecia speedrun,” another commenter wrote, referring to hair loss caused by repeated tension on the hair.
“She has extremely thin hair. But that hasn’t stopped Bella Hadid,” another user commented, pointing to the model’s similarly sleek hairstyles.
Another person joked, “Her hairline is begging for mercy.”
Some commenters were less concerned about potential hair damage and simply wanted Bieber to experiment with a different aesthetic.
“Nothing says ‘fashion icon’ when I see her. Same boring shades, slick back bun,” one person wrote.
Another commenter, who said they also have fine hair, admitted they understood the appeal.
“As someone with fine hair I lowkey get it lol,” they wrote, while adding that Bieber has the resources to experiment with extensions, faux bobs and other styles.

“It is legitimately so ugly. I don’t understand. It does her no favors,” another user said.
Others defended the look, comparing it to Swift’s signature bangs.
“It’s her signature the same way Taylor Swift has those bangs, so I can tolerate it,” one commenter wrote. “She was the official ‘clean girl’ aesthetic at one time.”
Still, speculation about Bieber experiencing hair loss remains just that—speculation. There is no evidence from the Reddit discussion alone that she has traction alopecia or another form of hair loss. Traction alopecia can occur when hairstyles repeatedly place tension on the hair follicles, particularly around the hairline. Dermatologists generally recommend avoiding consistently tight styles and paying attention to signs such as scalp tenderness, broken hairs or thinning around areas under tension.
For Hailey, though, the slicked-back bun appears to be more than a passing trend. Whether fans love it or are begging her to “switch it up,” the hairstyle has become as closely associated with her beauty aesthetic as Swift’s bangs are with hers.
