Jayden James has landed a major beauty campaign, becoming the latest cover star of MAC Cosmetics’ digital publication MACzine. But the 19-year-old’s new gig has already sparked a debate online over whether his famous family helped him get the job.

On Tuesday, August 25, MAC announced Jayden, the son of Britney Spears and Kevin Federline, as the latest face to appear on the cover of MACzine.

In photos from the shoot, the model posed in close-up portraits against a blue backdrop while holding MAC’s Fix+ Setting Spray. One image featured the provocative caption, “Who the f–k is Jayden James?”

Jayden James Faces Backlash Over Mac Cosmetics Gig

Jayden was selected by MAC Global Creative Director Nicola Formichetti to front the digital publication. In a statement, Formichetti praised the teenager’s creative talents.

“At MAC, we celebrate emerging talent and love following their creative journeys,” he said. “Jayden’s unique sensibility makes him the perfect MACzine cover star. He’s also an incredible pianist, and I’m so excited to see what he does next.”

However, the announcement received a mixed response on Instagram, with some users questioning whether Jayden’s famous parents played a role in landing the opportunity.

“Nepo baby with celebrity privileges,” another wrote.

“Awful photos. Who shot this?” one person commented.

“Mom got him a job,” someone else claimed.

“Can we stop hiring nepos?” another person asked.

Social Media Reacts

One commenter argued that children of celebrities have a significant advantage over aspiring talent without famous connections, writing, “Children with famous parents always get modeling jobs or TV/film assignments. Normal children who want to achieve something have to work 10 times harder to get a spot in the commercial world.”

Others, however, defended Jayden and argued that there is nothing wrong with taking advantage of opportunities that come with having famous parents.

“I see people complaining that he only got the gig because he’s Britney’s son,” one person wrote. “I’m like, if you had a famous parent like Britney Spears, wouldn’t you take advantage of that too? Or would you rather wake up at 7 a.m., take the bus, and go to your 9 to 5 job that you hate?”

The reaction highlights the ongoing debate surrounding “nepo babies” in fashion and entertainment, where celebrity children can gain access to high-profile opportunities that may be harder for newcomers to secure. Other “nepo babies” that have made headlines are Sunday Rose, North West, Jaden Smith, Kaia Gerber, and more.
