Kai Trump is opening up about the emotional side of leaving home for college while also giving fans a glimpse inside her new life at the University of Miami. However, her luxurious living arrangements have garnered some backlash online.
The 19-year-old daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump documented her transition to college in a series of YouTube videos. In one vlog filmed during her final days in Jupiter, Florida, Kai became emotional while driving and preparing to say goodbye to her family and friends.
“I’m not a very emotional person at all, so this is like really weird for me to cry,” she said, adding that she had “only cried a few times” in her life.

“I think knowing that I have to say goodbye to everyone tonight really, really sucks,” Kai continued. “I’m struggling right now, just thinking about it.”
Despite the difficult goodbye, she said she was looking forward to beginning the next chapter of her life.
“I’m moving on. … It happens to everyone. It’s time to move on,” she said. Kai later explained why she chose not to film some of her final moments with her family, saying, “It was just, like, sad. I just wanted to say goodbye. It was, like, hard to film because I wanted to be, like, present with my family, so I just didn’t film it.”
During her busy first week of college, Kai admitted that she had been so caught up with everything that she went several days without eating a proper meal. Concerned, her friend Emma stepped in and brought her some frozen food.
“Emma got me some frozen foods because I haven't eaten in like three days. So, Emma got me food,” she explained.
The emotional footage came shortly before Kai gave viewers a tour of her new college apartment in a video titled “My College Apartment Tour!”
Rather than a traditional freshman dorm, Kai showed off a spacious two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment with an open-concept kitchen, living room, guest bathroom and a separate office.
The kitchen features a large white island and modern appliances, while the living area includes a white sectional sofa, a television and a contemporary fireplace.
Kai also showed viewers her office, which includes personal decorations and a framed photo of her golfing with her grandfather, Donald Trump.
Her bedroom includes its own bathroom and walk-in closet, giving her considerably more space and privacy than a typical shared freshman dorm.
During the tour, Kai acknowledged how fortunate she feels to have the apartment, calling herself “lucky” to have the space as a freshman. She has also described her college experience as being heavily focused on golf.
Kai is a member of the University of Miami’s women’s golf team and has said that her athletic schedule will be packed with golfing tournaments.

Others criticized Kai’s family more broadly, with one person writing that she had “never felt what it’s like to lead a normal life.”
