Selena Gomez is opening up about her personal life in a major way!
The 27-year-old is in Interview magazine’s Spring 2020 issue, and not only does the “Rare” singer look remarkably different with high pigtail braids on the cover–but she’s also making some surprising revelations in the inside article. Let’s dive in!
Selena, who was interviewed by Amy Schumer for the issue, admits that her life was “out of control” during the eight years that she was on-again-off-again with Justin Bieber. Wow–we feel so bad for her that she had that sense of loss of control!

In fact--the superstar uses the words "out of control" not once but twice throughout the interview. It really feels like she was trying to get the point across!
The first time, at the beginning of the interview, when Amy asked why Selena ended her Instagram hiatus, the singer revealed: "My intention was never to become a tabloid, so when things kind of happened that way, it got out of control." Yikes!
She went on to clarify that, "I had to start opening up because people were taking away my narrative and it was killing me. I’m so young and I’m going to keep changing, and no one has the right to tell me how my life’s going." Amen, sister!
Again, later in the interview as Amy asked Selena about her personal life affecting her career in the past, the Pantene spokeswoman said again, "It got out of control when I was super young. I think it showed people that I was weak in certain moments, and that I had troubles. Some people just get off on building people up and then trying to bring them down." So true!
So, it was less about anything with Justin himself, and more about the media's portrayal of the star. Additionally, she's struggled with lupus, in-house treatment, bi-polar disorder--and a feud with close pal Demi Lovato!
Lovato recently revealed to Harper's Bazaar's May issue that the two are no longer friends. Ouch! Selena seems to have been dealt a difficult hand--but we're hopeful that the starlet will find some solace soon.
