For many of us, iCloud is a mysterious bank where we store everything and anything that would ordinarily hang out on our phones or computers. It’s a safe haven for files and one that also helps you free up space on your device so that you can take more photos and videos. With that said, there are also limitations to how you should use iCloud for the sake of your phone’s health. We spoke with tech experts who let us in on the unexpected iCloud setting you should stop using on your iPhone.
Don’t Select “Download and Keep Originals”
If your iCloud Photos has the option “Download and Keep Originals” selected, then Tech Expert Anirban Saha, found and editor of Tech Bullish, says you should change that immediately. “This will take up your iPhone’s internal storage, which is crucial for any iPhone as you don’t have any other option to add additional storage to it,” Saha says. “It is better that you select the “Optimize iPhone Storage” option in iCloud for efficient storage management.”
Olga Voronkova, marketing director at KeyUA, agrees that photos should be a focus when considering iCloud storage.
“Disable unnecessary backups,” Voronkova says. “Backups of pictures, videos and notes are useful, however having unnecessary backup data stored on your iCloud will only waste storage.”
Voronkova suggests going to Settings> Apple ID> iCloud> Manage Storage. “Also delete the pictures if you already have them on a hard drive or USB,” Voronkova says. “Select the backup> Delete Backup> Disable & Delete.”
