If you received a new iPhone or Android for Christmas, this is a gentle reminder that you will likely need more chargers than the one that came with the device. Most of us need at least three or four for our home, office, on-the-go, and if you’re in the market for a new one, here are some gentle reminders about what to look for when shopping so you don’t end up with a subpar product that might even fry your phone. Yikes!

Not Getting A Fast Charger

When it is time for you to replace your iPhone or Android charger, there are tons of options to choose from, but is there actually a difference? "The answer is a resounding YES!" Marc Enzor, owner of Geeks 2 You tells us. "You should make sure it is a Fast charger, as they will charge your phone twice as fast!"

How can you be sure? "For an iPhone, get a charger that says 12 Watts on it," he advises, noting that it's the same charger for an iPad, so you get two-in-one.

"For an Android, you will have to match up the Voltage(9V) & Amperage(1.8A) numbers that your current charger says, or look for one that is called a Fast charger."

Buying Off-Brand

"The worst possible mistake is to buy an off-brand charger or charging cable," James Song, Principal Investigator at Shadow Foundry, a blockchain research and innovation group in New York tells us.

"Most people buy chargers based on how they look on the outside, but the components inside are what's most important. Generally speaking, you can trust anything made by Amazon Basics, since they work hard to get proper certifications. Anker, too," he explains of the tech brand. "Where people get in trouble is when they try to save money and buy things with faulty components that ends up frying their phones." Yikes!

Going Basic

"Paying overpriced for something standard and boring," are the two biggest mistakes, Noah Dentzel of accessory brand Nomad tells us. "There are some innovative chargers out there with high-quality batteries, and then there's everything else. Do your research"
