Good Question: Mariah Carey's Butterfly Ring
May 11, 2007
From A SheFinds Reader: I came across your site in a search for Mariah Carey’s butterfly ring. I am at a loss as where to find it. I don’t really want the real thing but I don’t want a knockoff either. I would like it to be just as amazing and beautiful. so I was wondering if you might be able to help me find where I may buy a similar piece to the ring she is always wearing. I don’t mean the canary and white two butterfly ring that you can find online. I mean the big butterfly ring that stands off the finger and has probably diamond stones set in the wing spans. She wears it in all of her latest videos and every appearance I have seen of her on television.
The Answer: The dazzling butterfly ring worn by the glass-shattering chanteuse was made by Van Cleef & Arpels. The girl loves herself some butterflies, doesn’t she? This ring is serious bling. But if you don’t have $22,500 to drop on a ring, here are a couple equally beautiful, albeit smaller, ones to try: Like Ms. Mariah’s whopper of a bauble, this ring has stones all along the wings with a single stone set in the middle as the butterfly’s body. At less than 1/100th the pricetag of the original, it’s a keeper, I’d say. As for this next one, from what I can tell, there’s absolutely nothing real about it. The “diamonds” are rhinestones, the ring itself is silver-plated and it’s adjustable. But it does sparkle. So, as fashion jewelry goes, it’s sure to make a statement.
