Kate Middleton‘s fans are coming to her defense after some people online suggested she may not have actually completed the National Three Peaks Challenge simply because she changed her hiking pants between climbs. Yes, really!
The Princess of Wales, 44, completed the hiking challenge at the end of last month to raise money for the Royal Marsden charity that treated her during her cancer battle. While most people praised her for completing the impressive feat – climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales within 24 hours – a small corner of the internet became fixated on her outfit changes between peaks, suggesting the photos were AI-generated or featured a body double.

Reddit Users Mock Conspiracy Theories About Kate Middleton's Three Peaks Challenge
A Reddit thread poked fun at people who genuinely questioned the outfit changes between her climbs at Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon, mocking conspiracy-style theories. Many users couldn't understand why anyone found it suspicious that the Princess of Wales changed into dry clothes between climbs, especially after she was photographed in soaking wet conditions.
The post was titled: "Well She Changed Her Pants Between Mountains And That Is Questionable!"
And the caption read: "SNARK! 'AI? Body double? Unrepentant diva? Anything but a relatable princess of the people!' - All Sugars this morning." (FYI, "Sugars" seems to refer to supporters of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as the nickname is commonly used by the couple's critics online.)

Reddit Comments
"Of course she's wearing different clothes. In one of the photos she's soaking wet. She climbs a mountain, goes back to the car, changes into dry clothes, drives to the next mountain, hikes again, then returns to the car and changes again. That's just common sense," one Reddit user pointed out.
"Who in their right mind would stay in rain sodden clothes to climb 3 mountains in 3 different countries within 24 hours? There's plenty of opportunity to change into dry clothing between climbs and it's common sense," wrote a second, as a third added: "The three peaks are in 3 different countries of the UK, hours apart to get to. You'd defo want to change pants at least between each esp if you got wet."
"Even in the summer if you're soaking wet on a mountain you can get hypothermia. Catherine isn't stupid, she knows what she's doing on a mountain hike," a fourth chimed in, while a fifth said: "Even a complete noob would change out of wet clothes when given the opportunity. Hiking in wet clothes is so uncomfortable!"
A sixth called the conspiracy theorists "idiots," while a seventh called them a "bunch of morons." An eighth noted: "If anything, it shows that the Princess of Wales is a great planner and has the foresight to dress appropriately for the weather."
A ninth agreed: "One prepares clothing (and other gear) based on environmental conditions even possible conditions. Being well-prepared is essential to having a safe hike. I'm impressed!"
