Royal family insiders are coming forward to reveal just how much the return of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to the UK has affected Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Prince William is reportedly feeling unsettled by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s sudden return to the UK, with a palace source claiming the Sussexes’ homecoming has “derailed” what was supposed to be a happy period for the future king and his family. While Harry and Meghan’s move has raised questions about whether the brothers could eventually reconcile, reports suggest William remains skeptical of what his younger brother’s return could mean for the royal family. Prince William Is Reportedly 'Watching Over His Shoulder' After Harry And Meghan's Return
Prince William and Kate Middleton were reportedly caught off guard by Harry and Meghan's decision to return to his home country.
According to Vanity Fair, the controversial couple's arrival in England last month has caused added tension within the royal family, and William is allegedly concerned about what his brother's presence back in Britain could mean. Harry and Meghan are not returning as working royals, but their new closeness to the family could make it more difficult for William to avoid the ongoing conflicts between them.
The source claimed that the dad-of-three is now concerned about what the Spare author could do or say next, especially given their deeply strained relationship and Harry's history of publicly discussing his issues with the royal family. The insider suggested that the Prince of Wales may feel unable to fully relax with his brother living much closer to the royal family once again.
"There's a sense that William is going to have to be watching over his shoulder the whole time," they told the above publication. "He doesn't know what his brother is going to spring on them all next."
Harry's Return Has Reportedly 'Derailed' A Happy Time For William
The same source suggested that Harry and Meghan's move has come at a significant time for his brother and sister-in-law. With Kate reportedly doing better healthwise and their eldest son, Prince George, preparing to start boarding school at Eton College, the Wales family was allegedly looking forward to a positive new chapter before the Sussexes' unexpected return complicated matters.
The royal insider claimed that William's concerns aren't necessarily about Harry and Meghan taking on official royal duties, but that their return could reopen old wounds. Their tensions have been particularly difficult since Harry's memoir, in which he "bitterly attacked" the monarchy by making a series of serious and dark personal claims about his family, causing lasting stress for his brother.
"This was meant to be a happy time for him," the source continued. "Catherine is doing well, and George is just about to start Eton. This has just derailed them."
