Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are moving back to the United Kingdom with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The family of four will be living in a private, non-royal residence and have not made any indication that they will be reprising their former royal roles. According to insiders, though, this move is evidence of “spectacular defeat,” which is not difficult to believe following their failed Netflix deal and their tendency to clash with their famous neighbors in Montecito. Keep reading for more information.

Meghan Markle & Prince Harry To Move Back To The UK

It's been six years since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry left their royal roles behind and moved to the United States, taking up residence in Montecito, California. Now, they're headed back across the pond, reportedly in time for their two children to start school in September. It's unclear what this means for their estranged relationship with Prince William and Kate Middleton or their barely-there relationship with King Charles and Queen Camilla.

"There is no way to spin a move back to Britain as anything other than a spectacular defeat for the entire premise of Megxit," royal expert Kinsey Schofield told Fox News. "Harry set out to demonstrate that the monarchy needed him far more than he needed the monarchy. His return delivers precisely the opposite conclusion."

"Remember what Megxit was supposed to represent," she continued. "Freedom. Financial independence. Global influence. A dazzling new life without the constraints of the institution. Perhaps the most humiliating part is that Harry and Meghan left Britain seemingly convinced the monarchy was an anchor around their ankles. Six years later, it increasingly appears that the monarchy was the life raft."

Failed Netflix Deal & Clash With Famous Neighbors

While it's certainly quite a shocking move, it's not entirely surprising. Not only have Harry and Meghan struggled to fit in with their famous neighbors in Montecito, but their business ventures have also mostly flopped.

Shortly after coming to the United States, they teamed up with Netflix, signing a $100M contract to create content for them, beginning with their documentary, Harry & Meghan, which explored their love story, what led them to leave royal life, and how they went about doing it. Then came the former actress's at-home lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, which was cancelled after two seasons.

It was recently reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex don't have the best relationship with their Montecito neighbors, either. While they are not said to be actively feuding, there are claims that locals are choosing to distance themselves from the couple.

"They are avoiding them. No one wants to be seen with them," a source reportedly told Page Six. "It's not hate. It's just a growing awareness that they're takers with zero self-awareness. Everyone's exhausted by them," they added.
