My 3-year-old is about to be 4 this month, and I’m in complete denial about how fast she’s growing up!

I still vividly remember being pregnant with her. Pregnancy can be wonderful, but I felt nervous about all kinds of things, particularly during the first trimester when I was so nauseous that eating a normal meal felt like a major accomplishment.

Back in those days when I could barely stomach anything (and the mere smell of meat cooking made my stomach churn), I was most worried about whether my baby was getting the nutrients she needed. Taking a prenatal vitamin every day didn’t magically make the nausea go away, but it did give me some peace of mind that I was covering the nutritional bases…even on the days when my diet was crackers and ginger ale LOL.

That whole experience definitely made me appreciate prenatal vitamins a little more. And while “prenatal” obviously makes you think of pregnancy, I recently started looking more closely at what’s actually in these vitamins—and realized the nutrients inside them can be useful beyond pregnancy, too.

"Various supplements including Pink Stork products"

Pink Stork takes a similarly broad view of women’s health. The women-owned, women-run brand was founded by Amy Suzanne Upchurch, a mom of six and Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, and makes science-backed products designed to support women through different stages of life.

Total Prenatal + DHA ($35) contains 100% of 14 OBGYN-recommended nutrients, including methylated folate, choline, vegan DHA and non-constipating iron, along with a full B-complex and other essential vitamins and minerals. There’s a reason those nutrients are packed into a prenatal in the first place. If you’re trying to conceive, getting folate into your routine before pregnancy is confirmed is important. Once you’re pregnant, those prenatal-specific nutrients like DHA and choline become even more relevant as your nutritional needs change.

But I can also see why someone might be interested in the formula outside of pregnancy. If you’re taking a GLP-1 and eating less than you normally would, for example, a comprehensive supplement could help fill some nutritional gaps. And if you’re already focused on your hair and nails, biotin and zinc are two of the nutrients included here. The B vitamins and iron also play important roles in energy metabolism and red blood cell production.

Now, if you are pregnant and making prenatal vitamins a part of your routine, you want an option you can tolerate taking every day. During my pregnancy, swallowing giant capsules felt like a chore, and I truly struggled with fish oil capsules. Pink Stork’s Total Prenatal + DHA ($35) contains 200 mg of vegan DHA from algae, so there’s no fishy aftertaste to contend with, and the capsules are smaller than a standard multivitamin.

The formula is also designed to be gentle on the stomach, which is good news for anyone whose stomach is staging a daily rebellion. The capsules come in Berry or Mint, which at least gives you an option if you have strong opinions about the flavor of things you’re taking every day.

Pink Stork also says the formula is third-party tested and has earned the Clean Label Purity Award, which recognizes products that undergo independent testing for contaminants and purity. Total Prenatal + DHA is made without GMOs, gluten, soy, dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, animal products or artificial colors, and it’s designed to cover the nutritional needs from preconception through breastfeeding without requiring a separate DHA or folate supplement.

Plus, if you’re going to be taking something consistently for months—or potentially longer—it’s nice when the price makes things a little easier on you. Pink Stork offers 30% off when you subscribe and save, so you can have your next bottle headed your way without having to remember to reorder it every month.

Pregnancy still comes with plenty of things to worry about, but having a prenatal I felt good about taking was one small thing I could check off my list. Whether you’re preparing for pregnancy, already expecting or simply looking for nutritional support beyond those nine months, Pink Stork is a fantastic option worth knowing about.
