Netflix has delivered disappointing news for fans of Heels, officially putting an end to hopes that the wrestling drama could return for a third season.

The series, which was previously canceled by Starz after two seasons, found a new audience when Netflix took it over in 2024 and sparked hopes that the streaming platform could revive it. However, with the subtle announcement that Heels is set to leave Netflix on September 15th of this year, those hopes for a third season appear to be officially over, and fans aren’t exactly taking the news well. Read more about the series and the cancellation that disappointed fans below.

‘Heels’ Causes A Buzz On Netflix Ahead Of Season 3 News

There are so many shows that have been on Netflix and made waves over the years, and one of the more recent ones was Heels.

Starring Stephen Amell, Alexander Ludwig, Alison Luff, and more, Heels is a wrestling drama that follows two brothers, Jack and Ace, dealing with their late father’s independent professional wrestling promotion in small-town Georgia. The show explores the complicated relationship between the siblings alongside the challenges, romances, and dreams of the wrestlers trying to make a name for themselves in the competitive industry.

The Starz series premiered in 2021 and ran for two seasons before being canceled, with its second season ending in 2023. Then, fans saw a glimmer of hope when Netflix reportedly licensed both seasons in 2024, giving the show a second life with a new audience and sparking hopes that the streamer could potentially revive it for Season 3. Cast members and more previously encouraged viewers to watch the series on the massive streaming platform, with the hope that strong viewership could convince the streamer to continue the story.

At one point, even popular wrestler CM Punk told Deadline last year, “We’re trying to petition Netflix to do a third season of Heels.”

Unfortunately for fans, it looks like that revival won’t be happening.

Netflix Chooses To Remove ‘Heels’ Before Announcing Season 3

Earlier this weekend, entertainment media outlet What’s On Netflix reported that despite strong support from a number of fans and those who worked on the wrestling series, Heels didn’t attract the large audience Netflix needed to create a season three, while some of the cast members reportedly moved on to other projects.

The news has left longtime viewers especially angry, due to the show’s second season ending on a cliffhanger. With the show now leaving Netflix altogether, fans are once again expressing their frustration that Heels won’t get the opportunity to finish the story.

“Anyone else wish we had a Heels season 3 to finish out the story?” asked a Facebook user. “I can’t be the only one.”

“Absolutely, I was really hoping Netflix was going to pick up the mantle, but alas, we will never know how things would’ve ended,” responded another.

One user expressed, “I really hoped Netflix would finish it for us since Starz decided to leave us hanging. Such a great show.”

“Very disappointed they couldn’t finish the story,” commented one fan, with another adding that the streamer “can’t leave [it] on that cliffhanger.”
