Prince Harry could reportedly be getting back into the royal family and Buckingham Palace, as royal authors and experts are noting that his ‘part-time royal’ plan could be coming into fruition despite previous opposition.
The Duke of Sussex has long been linked to the idea of maintaining a role within the monarchy while also keeping an independent life outside of it, and that was reportedly strongly rejected by the royal family, especially by his father, King Charles. Now, years after Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped back from their senior royal duties, a royal author and expert is suggesting that some version of that arrangement could very likely still emerge in the future. Read more about the prince’s alleged ideal situation and the author’s take below.

Prince Harry Has Reported Intentions To Become A 'Part-Time Royal' After Stepping Down From His Duties
It's no secret that the dynamic of the entire royal family drastically changed when the famous redhead and his wife, the Suits actress, stepped down from their royal duties and left the UK for California in 2020 due to extreme media scrutiny and a desire to escape the royal lifestyle. Since then, there have been reports and signs of the estranged prince working to reconcile with his family, and potentially even work out a deal where he could be a working royal, only some of the time.
The idea of Prince Harry becoming a "part-time royal" dates back to the Sussexes' dramatic decision to step back from royal duties in 2020. Rather than completely severing ties with the monarchy, Harry and Meghan had allegedly envisioned a different kind of role that would allow them to remain connected to the royal family while also living a more independent life outside the UK. The proposed idea has often been described as "half-in, half-out," and Buckingham Palace made clear that the couple could not continue carrying out royal duties while pursuing separate business ventures and living in California.
Harry has since built a life with Meghan and their children in California, while more recently, making trips to the UK. However, whether or not he could have some kind of royal role in the next few years has continued to generate speculation, especially since he's seemingly repairing his relationship with his father.

Royal Author Says Prince Harry Could Potentially Have A 'Hybrid' Role In The Family
According to royal author Simon Vigar, the idea of the Spare author having a sort of part-time obligation to the monarchy may not be completely dead. Speaking to Fox News Digital, Vigar said that Harry genuinely believed a compromise could have worked and argued that a similar arrangement could eventually become possible within the monarchy.
"Harry did think that there was a hybrid version that they could do," he told the publication, explaining that Harry's thinking was not necessarily as unrealistic as it appeared.
"They thought they could have a hybrid role," he added. "And I think in years to come, there will be a hybrid version."
Though the author and expert on the family believes the idea has the potential to become reality, some are continuing to push back on it. We'll be curious to see if the dad-of-two continues to push for some kind of formal involvement in the royal family over the next few years, or if he makes other arrangements to let it go.
