If you’ve ever wondered which apps tech experts at Apple stay far away from, wonder no more. While millions of users adore this social media app and are unaware of some of the ways it slows down and negatively affects your phone, tech experts are hyper aware of these realities. And that is why Apple store employees hate this app because it ruins your phone.

Unbeknownst to many, Apple and Facebook engaged in a mini war of sorts a  year ago. Facebook reportedly violated its rules for developers by employing teenagers and others for access to their smartphone data. As a penalty, Apple blocked Facebook employees from accessing internal Facebook corporate apps that are run on iPhones.

What does all of this mean, in a nutshell? That there is no love lost between the two companies. But even before this took place, many tech experts have been dubious of the Facebook app.

Facebook is one of the hardest working apps out there — but that means it isn’t always the kindest to your smartphone. The app auto plays videos, which consumed battery power, and is constantly updating to provide you with the latest posts. It is one of the worst offenders when it comes to battery power and data consumption.

On a more serious note, the Facebook app has also been found to track users’ online activity in an effort to sell your data to its advertisers, who can then deliver targeted ads to you. If you’ve ever wondered why you were just searching for a pair of wide-legged jeans, only to find Facebook is now bombarding you with ads for wide-legged jeans, that’s the answer to that mystery.

Deleting the Facebook app will automatically give you back battery power and data and you may just find your phone working better than before. But if you aren’t on board with deleting the app, one thing you can do to ensure Facebook consumes less resources is to turn off video autoplay. To do that, go to  Facebook > Settings > Videos & Photos > select “Never Autoplay Videos.”
