When it comes to helping to preserve your smartphone battery, some apps are simply better (and worse!) then others. Before you download a bunch of apps, it’s a good idea to keep battery usage in mind if you are struggling to maintain a charge for longer than a few hours.

Here are four apps you should never download because they slowly destroy your iPhone’s battery life.

Apps That Use GPS

You’re going to want to have at least one quality navigation app on your phone that can accurately take you from Point A to Point B. But downloading and using Waze, Scout, CoPilot, and others — sometimes at the same time so you can benefit from the best option — is a major battery drainer.

Find one or two GPS apps you love and get rid of the rest.

Facebook

You may love hanging out on Facebook, but the Facebook app shows little love for your device. This social media app is one of the worst offenders when it comes to hogging storage data and depleting battery power. Save your battery by not downloading the app in the first place and using Facebook via your browser instead.

Facebook Messenger

Unfortunately, there is no way of accessing your Facebook Messenger messages on your phone unless you download the app. This puts you in the tough spot of having to decide whether the app is worth the battery drainage you’ll likely experience from it. If you can wait to read and respond to messages on your laptop or desktop and avoid downloading FB Messenger, all the better for your battery.

Moves

This app may be great for helping you reach your fitness goals, but it’s horrible for your phone battery, according to Know Your Mobile, which tested its effect on the iPhone: “Moves is a popular motion tracking pedometer app owned by Facebook. It uses the M7 and M8 motion coprocessor to track your steps and GPS to track your location. Both these tasks are battery hogging beasts, which is why just by having Moves (or most other motion tracking apps) running on my iPhone I get 2 hours 15 minutes less battery life per day.”
