Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster haven’t exactly had unanimous support from fans over their relationship following the ends of their respective marriages to Deborra-Lee Furness and Ted Griffin. And the pair have been on the receiving end of some very harsh roasting after they appeared on stage together to perform a duet of “A Million Dreams” from The Greatest Showman, which Jackman starred in back in 2017.

The performance marked their very first live concert performance together since starring in The Music Man on Broadway in 2022, which is where they allegedly began developing feelings for each other. The comments ranged from roasting their singing to calling their PDA “off-putting,” while many others couldn’t help but mention their former spouses amid allegations about the timeline of their relationship, with Furness previously admitting that she felt “blindsided” by Jackman’s new romance. The Internet Reacts To Hugh Jackman And Sutton Foster's Performance

Jackman, 57, and Foster, 51, took to the stage to perform "A Million Dreams" at the Ogunquit Playhouse's 2026 Gala in Maine on August 3rd.

The Younger actress pulled out all the stops in a lime green floor-length dress with a plunging neckline and sequins all over, while the Deadpool & Wolverine actor wore black trousers and a white shirt. They were holding hands, smiling, and giggling throughout the performance and even shared a kiss at the end – but it's safe to say that not everyone watching at home was won over, especially when thinking about their exes!

"Dear god no... this is horrendous," wrote one unimpressed Instagram user. "This is beyond off-putting on both of them," criticized a second. "It's not easy to watch. He left his wife of 27 years, who stood by him and supported his career. When she got older, her traded her in," a third claimed.

"I'm still finding this combo a bit well off pretty sad still for Deb but I suspect Sutton wasn't the first and wow how would you trust each other when they are apart knowing they were doing years ago behind Deb's back," a fourth commented, followed by a crying face emoji.

"Poor Deb! Us Aussies are disappointed," a fifth exclaimed. "Watching this breaks my heart for his wife," a sixth wrote. "This makes me a little sick and so sad," a seventh added. "He is not the person I thought he was. No longer a fan," an eighth commented.

"Sad they did this and their partners had no idea," a ninth alleged, as a tenth said: "Have lost respect for both of them." "I can't watch this," an eleventh confessed, as a twelfth concurred: "This is hard to watch."

In addition to the PDA, others took aim at the actual performance, with a thirteenth writing: "Clearly in love but omg neither are great singers." "I'm no expert but the singing is below average ability," a fourteenth criticized. "This is tough. Off-key, too low, wrong notes and different voice ranges. Ouch," a fifteenth wrote. "They don't sound that great," a sixteenth agreed.

Not all the comments were bad, though, as many others urged critics to leave the couple alone, pointing out that divorce happens and fans may not know the whole story behind the end of their respective marriages. "They are so sweet together!" exclaimed one supportive fan.

"You can see how much they love each other & are so happy," a second gushed. "Love them together. Life is short people they look happier than I see most couples, and in all honesty, nobody knows what happened in his marriage. Nobody knows what was going on behind closed doors, stop hating on them and let them live their lives," a third wrote, followed by a red heart emoji.

"Life is far tooooo short not to be happy!!" a fourth exclaimed. "Omg she adores him," a fifth wrote, followed by three heart eyes emojis. "I honestly love them together. Why can't people just be happy for them?" a sixth asked. "Everyone judging but no one actually lived his life and knows the truth. Leave them alone and concentrate on your own life," a seventh wrote in their defense.

Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster and Deborra Lee Furness

Deborra-Lee Furness Reportedly Reached Out To Sutton Foster Over Hugh Jackman's Health

The performance comes amid recent reports that Furness contacted Foster out of concern for Jackman's health after it was revealed that he had signed on for another Wolverine movie, reportedly because of the toll the role's demanding diet and workout regimen has taken on his body in the past.

"Hugh signing on for another Wolverine movie sent Deb spiraling, since he had vowed never to put his body through that grueling workout and diet regime again," an insider told Woman's Day.

"As the mother of his kids, she'll always worry about his health, and that's why she took the unusual step of reaching out directly to Sutton," they continued, adding: "Deb is willing to put some of her resentment aside to help Sutton steer Hugh towards safer choices. It's typical no-nonsense Deb!"

The Bunheads actress reportedly approached the messages with caution and questioned whether Furness had another reason for reaching out beyond concern for the Les Misérables alum's health. "She's very cautious of Deb's messages and worried she's got some ulterior motive," the insider claimed. "Sutton's worried this could be the start of something no one wants. It's all about boundaries, and the fear is Deb might be looking for any excuse to hang onto a connection with Hugh."

Jackman is also reportedly very focused on his career right now following his divorce, which sources have claimed hasn't always been easy on his new relationship. "Hugh's got a lot of ground to make up since that rather expensive divorce, so he's thrown himself into work," a source told Woman's Day back in June.

"Sutton's finding it hard to be by Hugh's side at so many events, and he invites her to every single one. Sadly, the biggest casualty of all is Hugh and Sutton finding quality time together – they're like passing ships sometimes," they added.

However, their on-stage PDA certainly suggested that they are making time for each other – and that the spark is still there, even if a lot of people on the internet don't seem to like seeing it!
