You still have more than enough battery power to get you through the afternoon, but you want to be sure your iPhone lasts until the wee hours of the morning. If you're like most iPhone users, you may just plug in your charger and power up your phone as a precaution. But there's one scenario in which charging your phone when the battery is still green is a bad idea.

Make Sure You're Using An Apple Charger

So, here's the deal with chargers: they make all the difference in your iPhone's battery life. If you're using an Apple charger and you plug it into your phone, even if your device is green and nearly fully charged, the charger will power it just enough and then automatically stop delivering power when you're reached 100 percent.

Unfortunately, things don't work that way when you rely on a third-party, off-brand charger. Using a non-Apple charger is a big risk because it could continue to deliver a charge to your phone, long after your device is fully charged. And that can lead to an eventual battery meltdown.

Bottom Line: Only Use Apple Chargers

They may cost you a few more dollars, but only using Apple chargers, every time you charge your phone, is the only way you can guarantee you are taking care of your phone's battery. These chargers are designed to work with your phone — something you won't always get with cheaper, less reliant third-party chargers. Ideally, no matter what charger you use, you'll wait until your battery has dipped down low and then charge your battery for a few hours. Anything more than that is probably not necessary and could affect your battery life.
