Paris Fashion Week is no stranger to bold runway moments, but Saint Laurent’s latest footwear design has sparked a wave of reactions online.
For the brand’s Men’s Spring/Summer 2027 show, creative director Anthony Vaccarello unveiled a fully transparent men’s dress shoe that quickly became one of the collection’s most talked-about pieces.

YSL Divides Internet Over Transparent Shoe
Presented at the Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection in Paris, models walked through a dramatic fog-filled runway wearing tailored looks that included muted vests, relaxed trousers, and oversized sunglasses. Completing the ensembles were translucent yellow lace-up dress shoes with a subtle block heel that left the models' toes fully visible.
Explaining the inspiration behind the unconventional design, Vaccarello joked, "I asked myself: 'Why torture women with plastic shoes, but not men?'"
After Saint Laurent shared the shoes on Instagram, fashion fans wasted no time weighing in.
"Haven't we been through enough," one person commented on Instagram.
"They must look fancy with all the sweat and condensation," another joked.
A third wrote, "I'm calling the police."
"Because we all want to see a man's toes," another quipped.
Someone else asked, "What happens when sweat and steam fog that thing up?"
Another added, "WHERE IS JOAN RIVERS WHEN WE NEED HER?"
Others couldn't believe the design came from the luxury fashion house, with one user writing, "Wow, I thought this was a joke until I noticed it's the verified YSL page."
Another simply called the shoes "disgusting."

Although the transparent lace-ups debuted as menswear and haven't yet been worn by a celebrity, Saint Laurent has previously embraced similar footwear for its womenswear collections.

Zoë Kravitz Wears Perspex Heels In NYC
Earlier this year, Zoë Kravitz stepped out in a head-to-toe Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello look for Anna Wintour's pre-Met Gala dinner in New York City. Her outfit featured a sheer yellow floral skirt with gold threading, a vintage-inspired knit cardigan trimmed with brown fur at the collar and cuffs, oversized sunglasses, a suede YSL clutch, and a pair of clear Perspex pumps that showcased the same transparent aesthetic seen in the latest menswear collection.
Whether the see-through dress shoes become the next luxury trend or remain a runway curiosity, they've already accomplished one thing: getting the internet talking.
