The speech, which Trump gave in Houston on August 28th, was supposed to be in celebration of the four Artemis II astronauts: Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen. The crew was presented with the Congressional Space Medal of Honor, but Trump did not spend much time talking about the astronauts, or even NASA in general.
Rather than being met with applause or enthusiastic cheers like many of his rallies or events, Trump was met with what appeared to be complete silence from the audience. As he continued speaking, there was little visible or audible reaction to his remarks, creating an unusually awkward atmosphere for what was supposed to be a celebratory ceremony. Even after he finished his speech, he was met with defeaning silence.
