In the scene, she can be seen sitting in the back of the car, describing stories of times she experienced racism in the UK, but also ones she had experienced in the US, with her mom being called offensive names. Meghan Markle Discusses Her Past With Racial Comments In Resurfaced Clip From 'Harry & Meghan' Documentary
One of the biggest news stories of the summer was the announcement that the controversial couple, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, were moving back to the UK.
The announcement came around six years after they stepped down from their royal duties and moved from England to California, where they bought a home in Montecito to raise their two children, Archie and Lilibet. From there, they ventured into their own business projects, with Meghan's lifestyle brand and series and Harry's best-selling memoir, Spare. One of their earlier projects included the Netflix documentary series released in 2022 on their love story and why they moved, Harry & Meghan.
A clip from the series recently resurfaced on a social media account, where the user shared it in speculation that it's why the Suits alum wanted to move out of the United States. In the clip, she described her experiences with racism in the past, recalling a story where her mom had been called a derogatory name in America, and how things only got surprisingly worse when she moved to the UK to be with Harry, due to the media scrutiny.
"[It's] very different to be a minority but not be treated as a minority right off the bat," she can be seen saying. "Obviously now, people are very aware of my race, because they made it such an issue when I went to the UK, but before that, most people didn't treat me like a Black woman."
Social Media Users React To The Viral Clip
The clip from the documentary, which went viral on Instagram, sparked another online debate as to why the Duke and Duchess might've moved back to the UK, but also as to whether or not it was the right decision.
Neither Harry nor Meghan has sat down for a formal interview or released a statement that wasn't through representatives detailing the main reasons behind their move. Social media users have speculated that it could be because King Charles is still sick and is healing his relationship with his son. Still, especially after seeing these clips, users are surprised as to why Meghan herself agreed to go back.
"They left the UK because of the racism," a user wrote under the viral clip on Instagram. "Do u remember the Oprah interview? Do you remember the race allegations about the Royal family?"
"The UK doesn't want them back," another speculated. "America can keep them!"
"Wasn't Meghan the one who insisted the UK was a dangerous place without police protection?" asked a user. "Yet, she is sending her children to a local school there? Does this mean they've run out of money and are returning to the UK? After all, their attempt at life in America was a failure."
